Urbano, another small parcel and valuable cru of our vineyards in the Mazon site. In this heart of<br />Mazon, there was already a Burgundy vineyard at the time of the vineyard's previous owner, Ludwig Barth von Barthenau, which stood next to a 'Roccolo', a historic bird-<br />catching site. BARTHENAU<br />VIGNA S. URBANO PINOT NOIR<br /><br />A Pinot Noir whose dark ruby-red colour already hints at its enormous concentration.<br />If the nose is still somewhat closed at first, it soon releases its aromas in the glass, which are reminiscent of the multi-faceted bouquet of classic Burgundies.<br />The enveloping scent of sour cherries and raspberries is underlined by delicate vanilla tones and fine spicy notes.<br />On the palate, it is very well balanced and convinces with its elegant acidity, well-integrated tannins and an impressively aromatic concentration.<br /><br />The Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano is an expression of our most valuable Cru site. It is located in the heart of the vineyards around our estate Barthenau near Mazon.<br />This Pinot Noir reflects the enormous potential of this unique site, where vines grow, some of which are more than 55 years old.<br /><br />Only the classification 'Vigna' guarantees the origin of a site wine in South Tyrol.<br />VSU<br />Hofstätter Classification<br /><br />Grape variety<br /><br />Pinot Noir<br />Soil<br /><br />Conglomerate of clay, limestone and porphyry soils.<br />Vinification<br /><br />After delivery, the majority of the grapes are lightly crushed and destemmed, 25% enter the fermentation barrel intact. During fermentation, the must is kept in constant contact with the solid grape components.<br />Maturation<br /><br />The ageing in wooden barrels takes place in two different phases: in the first phase, the wine is aged for about 12 months in small oak barrels; in the second phase, after the<br />assemblage, it is aged for about another 8 months in large oak barrels. After crushing, the must ferments in steel tanks with gentle maceration. Mason - the sensitive companion.<br /><br />It nestles silkily against the skin, cherries, blackberries and roses linger for a long time, and the coveted Pinot Noir makes the mind sensual at the right time.<br /><br />Grape variety: Pinot Noir.<br />Colour: bright, rich ruby red.<br />Aroma and taste: Raspberries and cranberry fruit, some rose petals and liquorice, ripe in fruit and fresh in spice, fruity and delicate on the palate, velvety and at the same<br />time firm from the tip of the tongue to the finish.<br />Site and soil: Mazzon, called 'Mason' by us to avoid confusion with the larger site above Neumarkt. Four hectares are planted with Pinot Nero in this unique site: a south-<br />facing plateau at 400 - 450 m above sea level, sunny and constantly exposed to the wind. Ideal conditions for the tightly berried Pinot grapes. The soil is sandy loam and<br />interspersed with various stones: Dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite can be found from small grains to fist-sized stones.<br />Vinification: Each batch from the different parcels was vinified separately. The maceration took place in wooden vats, spontaneously with the grape's own yeasts. Maceration<br />lasted two weeks, with the marc cake being macerated once a day. The 12-month wooden barrel ageing took place in barriques, with only 10% new wood and the wine<br />remaining on the fine lees for the entire time. Only then were the individual parcels blended, selecting the best barrels from the highest parcel with the oldest vines for Mason<br />di Mason.<br />Serving temperature: 16 -18 °C.<br />Pairings: roasted and grilled (red) meats, game and matured soft cheeses.<br />

The very old vines produce a wine of above-average quality, with concentrated but velvety tannins, juicy fruit and a robust body.<br />Grape varieties: Lagrein<br />Growing area/climate: vines more than 80 years old on warm, sandy alluvial soils in Gries near Bolzano, 250 metres above sea level.<br />Harvest: end of September to mid-October<br />Vinification: After traditional red wine fermentation in wooden barrels, the young wine matures for about one year in French barriques.<br />Characteristics: Colour: impenetrable garnet red.<br />Aroma: fruity of ripe cherries, floral of roses and violets, reminiscent of humus, beautiful chocolate tones<br />Flavour: powerful and harmonious with a velvety fullness, long-lasting and elegant<br />Goes well with: grilled or cooked dark meat, game dishes and ripe cheese<br />Alcohol: 14 % vol*<br />Residual sugar : 4,0 g/l*<br />* Depending on the vintage, the analytical values may vary slightly.<br />
