<br />The elegant Marlborough red<br /><br />A balanced and lively expression of Pinot Noir from the Marlborough region.<br /><br />The 2017 growing season began with ideal spring conditions; warm temperatures and few frost events encouraged good canopy growth. Settled weather over flowering led to<br />high potential crops, fruit thinning was widely employed to reduce yield and achieve optimum vine balance. Fastidious canopy management throughout the mild and sunny<br />growing season ensured fruit developed, then ripened, at an ideal rate. The excellent weather during the ripening season was interrupted by rain events during the harvest.<br />The single-minded quality focus of the viticulture and winemaking teams, with hour by hour assessment, led to optimum picking decisions. Our low-yielding, early-ripening<br />vineyards with their open canopies, stood us in good stead in what was a tricky vintage across Marlborough and New Zealand.<br /><br />Nose: Appealingly aromatic, the 2017 Pinot Noir reveals notes of Morello cherry and bramble.<br />Palate: Fine, silky tannins and juicy acidity provide an elegant structure, with complexity coming from gentle toast and.<br /><br />Harvest:<br />We hand-picked the Pinot Noir from March 24th until April 11th, at a point of excellent flavour concentration and acid balance.<br />Vinification: The Pinot Noir fruit was all de-stemmed before being gravity fed into the open topped fermentation vessels. The grape skins were gently plunged with an average<br />of 18 days skin contact. After fermentation the wines were matured in French oak for 11 months, of which 35% was new. A wine with a great structure, elegant, rich in aromas and of remarkable longevity. These characteristics derive from a very low yield per hectare, the delayed harvesting of<br />selected grapes and maturation in steel for at least one year before bottling.<br /><br />Type of wine: dry white.<br />Area of origin: Castelli di Jesi hills in the area known as Classica.<br />Soil: medium-textured, with areas rich in clay alternating with sandy areas.<br />Grapes: pure Verdicchio.<br />Yield per hectare: 70 q<br />Processing: harvesting of the grapes when fully ripe with accurate selection; soft pressing of the whole bunches, cleaning of the cold must and fermentation at low<br />temperature.<br />Ageing: 15 months in stainless steel tanks at 10° C on the noble lees and maturation in the bottle for 4 months in a thermo-conditioned room.<br />Colour: straw yellow.<br />Intense, elegant, fruity bouquet with hints of citrus fruits.<br />Taste: persuasive, soft, with great character, long lasting flavour, warm and elegant.<br />Consumption: up to 10 years.<br />Recommended with first courses, fish and white meat with aromatic herbs.<br />Serving temperature: 12° C<br />

Sauvignon Blanc is an international grape variety grown in many areas of the world. In both cases,<br />elegance and finesse are characteristic of only the best wines.<br />The right bank of the Isonzo, with its warm and stony soils, decisive for a superior structure, and a climate favoured in the temperature change by the ventilation of Balkan<br />origin and by Mediterranean influences due to its proximity to the sea, is a site of great potential for following what can be called 'the Friulian way to Sauvignon Blanc'.<br /><br />Grape variety: Sauvignon Blanc<br />Denomination: DOC Friuli Isonzo<br />Vineyard: Cultivated with organic fertilisation and integrated phytosanitary defence (EU regulations) with abolition of chemical weeding.<br />Vinification: Fermentation in steel tanks (20-22 °C), combined maturation in stainless steel/wood on fine deposit for 11 months with frequent bâtonnage. Gris is a pure Pinot Grigio from a single vineyard where all the vines have reached productive maturity.<br />After the start of fermentation in steel, this continues and is completed in 500-litre French oak casks, followed by 11 months of maturation on fine deposit in the same<br />fermentation containers. It is strange how a grape variety that is so popular throughout the world was confused in Friuli with Pinot Bianco until the late 1970s.<br />Although the entire eastern part of this region has great potential, the variety has not yet entered the hearts of producers, but there are examples that show how this variety<br />can compete with the great Chardonnays of the world.<br />Jurosa is one of them, and its northern, sunny character marks its evolutionary path, capable of improvement and progress over time.<br /><br />Grape variety: Chardonnay<br />Denomination: DOC Friuli Isonzo<br />Vineyard: Cultivated with organic fertilisation and integrated pest management (EU regulations) with no chemical weeding.<br />Harvest: By hand with careful selection of the bunches.<br />Vinification: Fermentation in 500-litre French oak barrels (22-24 °C), maturation in the same containers for 11 months with frequent bâtonnage, bottling and ageing in bottles<br />for a minimum of 12 months.<br />Alcohol content: 13 %.<br />Serving temperature: 11° C<br /><br />After a spring that was not ideal for this variety, the vines reacted well during the summer, giving us a fascinating and well-balanced wine with a northern, sunny character,<br />capable of improving and progressing over time. On the nose, it has notes of apricot, hay, butter and custard; on the palate, it is full and mineral with an acidic streak well<br />balanced by softness. It goes well with all fish dishes, from hot starters and first courses to steamed or stewed main courses, and can also be enjoyed with cheeses and<br />white meats.<br />
