Epokale was the first Italian white wine to be awarded 100 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. This wine contradicts the classic idea of a South Tyrolean<br />Gewürztraminer, redefines boundaries and impressively shows what this great variety is capable of.<br />Mild temperatures in spring brought about an early start of vegetation. The summer months were decidedly sunny and dry. Cool nights ensured that the physiological<br />ripeness could nevertheless develop in a balanced way. Thanks to a cool September, the ripening process was delayed so that an excellent harvest with optimally ripened<br />grapes took place. TYPE: D.O.C. Bolgheri Sassicaia<br /><br />PRODUCTION AREA: Bolgheri. The production facilities are located at an average altitude of between 100 and 300 metres above sea level, with western/southwestern<br />exposure.<br /><br />VINE: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc.<br /><br />SOIL TYPE: strong presence of calcareous areas rich in marl and stones and partially clayey.<br /><br />VINIFICATION: Selection of the grapes using a sorting table to eliminate impurities and any imperfections. Soft pressing and gentle de-stemming of the grapes using<br />suitable machinery to avoid breaking the integrity of the berries and avoid excessive release of tannins. Alcoholic fermentation (completely spontaneous and without the<br />addition of external yeasts) was completed in mid-October and took place regularly at maximum temperatures of 26-27 °C. Frequent delestages and open-air pumping over<br />allowed for excellent aromatic extraction and freshness in terms of the acidity of the musts. Malolactic fermentations (always without nocules), carried out in stainless steel,<br />were completed regularly at the end of November thanks to the low external temperatures. In early December, after frequent racking to clean the musts, the wine was placed<br />in barriques from the first ten days of December 2019.<br /><br />VINEYARD SYSTEM: spurred cordon<br /><br />COLOUR: purple red with violet reflections.<br /><br />BOUQUET: expressive and very fine bouquet, broad, with hints of cherry and aromas of undergrowth, balsamic herbs and rosemary.<br /><br />PAIRINGS: Meat of all kinds and fine game.<br /><br />TASTE: very fine and intense, with a fresh acidity supported by strong tannins. Balanced and long.<br /><br />AGEING: at the end of the malolactic fermentation the wine was put into barriques using 40% new wood, 40% first passage and 20% second passage. We used French oak<br />barriques (Troncais and Allier in particular) with a fine grain and light toasting in order not to overdo the release of tannins. Sassicaia 2019, after about 25 months of<br />refinement in wood, was racked into steel tanks and further selected before final blending and then bottling.Subsequent refinement in bottle before release.<br />

The sandy alluvial river soils in the closed heat-retaining Bolzano basin are characterised by<br />porphyry.<br />Climate: the Mediterranean climate is characterised by a lot of warmth from the south and very hot summers.<br />Vinification: the grapes of the GRIES Lagrein Riserva are harvested by hand. After destemming, the must ferments in steel tanks with gentle maceration. Subsequent ageing<br />for 12 months in barrique barrels and a further year in the bottle.<br />Colour: Deep dark ruby red.<br />Aroma: Wild berries, bitter chocolate, juniper, liquorice.<br />Taste: Strong character, powerful, expressive<br />Food recommendation: wild boar stew, venison pepper<br />Serving temperature: 16-18 °C<br />Storage recommendations: Cool at 10-13 °C and min. 60% humidity<br />

The grapes are<br />pressed in the traditional tanks called lagares, followed by maturation of the Port in large old oak vats in the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia.<br />COLOUR: intense ruby<br />BOUQUET: Intense aroma of wild fruits, spices, notes of dark chocolate, with a slight floral profile, making it a refined and very expressive Port wine<br />PAIRINGS: perfect with desserts in which chocolate predominates, especially dark chocolate. It also goes well with cheeses such as Cheddar and Brie. Ideal with red meat<br />(fillet with pepper) and game.<br />TASTE: fresh and seductive in the mouth, with good texture and body. Matarocchio Bolgheri DOC Superiore 2016<br /><br />Climate: The 2016 vintage in the Matarocchio vineyard was characterised by a mild winter with sporadic but abundant rainfall which allowed excellent water reserves to<br />accumulate in the soil. The vegetative upswing took place slightly earlier than usual and then continued in a regular manner, accompanied by a spring with temperatures and<br />rainfall in the seasonal average. The tendency towards a sunny and dry summer favoured positive and slight stress on the vines, particularly towards the end of the ripening<br />phase. These climatic conditions, together with the cool night-time temperatures, enhanced the characteristics of the Cabernet Franc, giving the grapes a rich, silky tannic<br />texture and excellent aromatic potential. The grapes were harvested by hand between 20 and 27 September.<br /><br />Vinification: The grapes were harvested by hand and, after careful grain-by-grain sorting, soft pressing and cold pre-maceration were carried out, followed by the start of<br />alcoholic fermentation. The wine was then transferred into new French oak barriques, where malolactic fermentation was completed and it matured for 18 months. At the end<br />of maturation and after careful tasting, the best barriques were selected and blended to create Matarocchio. The wine then rested for the next 12 months in bottle before<br />release.<br /><br />Historical data: Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of the Alta Maremma, about a hundred kilometres south-west<br />of Florence. This appellation has a relatively short history (it was established in 1995) but boasts international fame as a new point of reference on the world wine scene.<br />Tenuta Guado al Tasso covers an area of approximately 320 hectares planted with vineyards, in a splendid plain surrounded by hills known as the 'Bolgheri amphitheatre'<br />for its particular conformation. The vineyards of Guado al Tasso are mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino<br />grapes. They enjoy a mild climate due to the nearby presence of the sea: the constant breezes mitigate the summer heat and the rigours of winter, clean the sky and keep<br />the sunshine index high.<br /><br />Tasting Notes: Matarocchio 2016 shows great aromatic complexity, with notes of small dark fruits alternating with sensations of cocoa powder, exotic spices and roasted<br />coffee. On the palate it is enveloping, rich, with good tension and long persistence.<br />

Reserve wines made up of 25 different vintages blended since 1985, in proportions of up to 50%.<br />Maturation: on the lees for 40 months, resting in the cellar for at least 3 to 4 months after disgorgement and before marketing<br />Colour: brilliant straw gold, revealing the exclusive use of the first pressing and the important percentage of Chardonnay. Very fine and extremely lively perlage<br />Bouquet: fresh and fruity, dominated by citrus aromas - green lemon, grapefruit - typical of Chardonnay. Then the red fruits appear: black cherry, currant, raspberry, typical<br />of Pinot Noir.<br />Taste: A lively attack thanks to a weak dosage that respects the authenticity of the wine. The minerality of the chalk is noticeable. Flavours of citrus, almond, toasted bread,<br />but also of currant jelly and black fruits such as cherry are immediately apparent.<br />Bitterness: 6 g/l<br />Alcoholic Grade: 12% vol<br />
