Stoan is a unique wine that reflects the richness and potential of our terroir. A lively blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc and Gewürztraminer, the brainchild of<br />our winemaker.<br /><br /><br />Description of the vintage: After a dry winter and an initially cold March, above-average spring temperatures favoured early budding and early flowering. From mid-May to<br />early June the weather was mainly rainy and wet. In the later maturation phase, rainfall was normal, with few heat peaks and concomitant short dry periods. Throughout the<br />summer the nights were characterised by pleasant coolness. Harvesting began in early September and until mid-October was interrupted repeatedly by single days of rain,<br />fortunately alternating with prolonged periods of sunshine. The white wines are fresh, with an intense olfactory profile. The red wines, with great finesse and elegance,<br />indicate great ageing potential.<br />Grape variety: Chardonnay 65%, Sauvignon 20%, Pinot Blanc 10%, Gewürztraminer 5%.<br />Yield: 45 hl/ha<br />Altitude: from 400, more from 500 - 600 metres<br />Exposure: south-east 90%, south 10%.<br />Harvest: end of September - mid-October<br />Bottles produced: about 48,000, 760 magnums and some large sizes<br />Soil: calcareous gravel mixed with clay<br />Age of vines: 10 - 40 years<br />Climate: wide temperature range due to hot days influenced by the Mediterranean climate and cold nights with very fresh winds coming from the mountains<br /><br />Vinification: the grapes are harvested entirely by hand and placed in small containers that keep them intact; immediate pressing; slow fermentation at a controlled<br />temperature (18°-20°) in wooden barrels (30-40 hl), in which malolactic fermentation also takes place; racking of the must by natural sedimentation.<br /><br />AGING: Refining in large wooden barrels (30-40 hl), always in contact with the yeasts until the end of August. The fresh must is statically clarified at low temperatures and then gently fermented at a controlled temperature<br />of 20°C in steel tanks. The young wine matures in steel tanks for several months on its fine lees.<br /><br />TASTING NOTES<br />Our Pinot Grigio captivates with light straw yellow and fruity notes of ripe pears, white pepper and a bit of sage in the nose. Mineral- salty richness and a crisp acidity are<br />distinctive on the palate. A wine with backbone!<br /><br />TERROIR<br />Steep slopes with southeast and southwest orientation between 250 and 600m. An interplay of brisk mountain and warmer mid-level vineyards. Calcareous soils with clay,<br />sand and porphyric parts. Straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. Complex, very fine bouquet, with pleasant fruity notes of citrus and peach.<br />Dry, pleasantly fresh flavour with a good, balanced structure.<br />Pairings<br /><br />Excellent as an aperitif and with fried prawns or escalopes alla livornese.<br /> <br /><br /> <br />More Info<br /><br />The most known and traditional Altemasi label is the Millesimato, sparkling Traditional Method Blanc de Blancs, whose mark is the elegance obtained from the long<br />maturation on the yeasts (over 24 months). Elegance and finesse are linked to the fruity and mineral bouquet.<br />Tasting Notes<br /><br />Persistent foam with minute fine-grain perlage. Straw yellow colour, with very faint greenish tinges. A wine with seductive fruit sweetness, spicy fragrance and excellent acidity.<br /><br />Description: Strong green-yellow, pleasant fruit aromas of quince, pear and honeydew melon.<br />honeydew melon. The 2023 winegrowing year was characterized by changeable weather and the resulting increased work in the vineyard. A snow-deficient winter and a warm March<br />accelerated the start of vegetation. A typical April and a rainy May led to flowering close to the long-term average. June was unstable, with heat waves and drought. July<br />brought a lot of rain coupled with some very hot days. Despite extreme temperature fluctuations in August, a golden autumn brought us a successful grape harvest with very<br />good grape qualities overall.<br />Tasting notes: bright yellow, fruity aroma of ripe peach, mango and coconut milk, full mouthfeel with lots of ripe fruit on the palate, juicy finish.<br /><br />Recommendation: try it as an aperitif, with light starters, summer salads, asparagus dishes, grilled fish or with mild sliced and fresh cheeses!<br /><br />Vinification: Whole cluster pressing of ripe and above all perfectly healthy grapes, 18-hour maceration, natural must clarification, slow fermentation at a controlled<br />temperature of 18 °C (approx. 50% spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels), 5-month ageing on the fine lees, filtration and bottling in March.<br /><br />Vineyard:Steep south/south-western slope at 700 m above sea level with sandy-loamy porphyry weathered soil.<br /><br />Grape variety: Kerner<br />Age of the vines: 10 - 30 years<br />Drinking temperature: 10 - 12 °C<br />Yield: 65 hl/ha<br />Method of cultivation: wire frame + pergola<br />Alcohol: 14,5 %<br />Residual sugar: 4,3 g/l<br />Acidity: 6,1 g/l<br />Contains sulphites<br />
