Cabernet 'Istrice' 2020<br />South Tyrol DOC<br /><br />Cabernet 'Istrice' was Elena Walch's first red wine. At that time consisting of a predominant proportion of Cabernet Franc and only a little Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine<br />showed 'its spines', just like the little hedgehogs in the park of the family winery. Today, the percentage of 'Istrice' has exactly reversed with 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and<br />about 10% Cabernet Franc. Although it shows less of its spines, it has gained in elegance and finesse and continues to be one of the favourites at Walch.<br /><br />'The Cabernet 'Istrice' captivates with a strong intense ruby red and with stimulating fruity aromas in the nose, with red forest berries and heart cherries as well as seductive<br />spice with white pepper and chocolate. On the palate, the wine surprises with refreshing richness and structure, with elegant, precise tannins and fruity-spicy density, as<br />well as a long, juicy finish.'<br /><br />LESE 2020<br />Spring 2020, with its beautiful weather and warm temperatures, spring flowers in the garden and thick blanket of fresh snow on the mountains, led to the relatively early<br />development of the vines, which settled down again with the cooler temperatures in June. After a warm midsummer, the harvest started in the first days of September. The<br />autumn was characterised by warm days and cool nights, but also by some freak weather, whereby the careful cultivation of the vineyards in early summer was noticeable.<br />The 2020 vintage resulted in wines of great South Tyrolean typicity: The young white wines stand out with fresh liveliness and clear aromatic expression, the red wines show<br />very good structure and straight, fine fruit.<br /><br />VINIFICATION<br />Traditional maceration of about 10 days in steel tanks. Followed by malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels. Pinot Nero 2022<br />South Tyrol DOC<br /><br />VINEYARDS: 100% Pinot Noir<br /><br />VINIFICATION: Traditional maceration for 10 days at controlled temperature in steel barrels. Subsequent malolactic fermentation and ageing in medium French oak barrels<br />(22hl) and partly in steel tanks.<br /><br />DEGUSTATION: The Pinot Noir Elena Walch presents itself with a clear, fresh ruby red. A fruity play of aromas with red berries, cherries and raspberries as well as spicy<br />notes with some white pepper characterise the nose. On the palate, the wine convinces with a juicy structure and inviting freshness, with soft, velvety tannins, discreet spice<br />in the background as well as a youthfully elegant finish.<br /><br />TERROIR: An interesting combination of vineyards in fresher sites between 400m a.s.l. up to 600m a.s.l.. Limestone and porphyry soils in south-eastern and south-western<br />exposure. Harvested and selected by hand with the utmost care.<br /><br />LESE 2022: An excellent vintage 2022 awaits you! Thanks to the warm, stable summer, grapes of the very best health and with balanced values have reached our cellar.<br />The 2022 wine year started with a warm spring, which led to an early start of flowering. The following summer was consistently dry and warm, and hot in mid-summer. The<br />drought did not lead to any problems, not least thanks to our irrigation systems and meteostations in the vineyard. The warm summer months resulted in very healthy<br />grapes of very good quality and ripeness. The acidity levels were somewhat lower due to the vintage, but well balanced and were supported by targeted foliage work in the<br />summer, as well as a somewhat earlier harvest. The first grapes were harvested at the end of August - as always completely by hand. Lagrein, genetically related to Syrah, is the oldest autochthonous grape variety in South Tyrol. In the hot, deep vineyards in the south of South Tyrol, the heat-loving Lagrein<br />finds its suitable habitat.<br />The FRAUENHÜGEL has a seductive fruitiness of wild berries, elderberries, black cherries and cocoa beans. The wine is enriched with balsamic tannins during ageing in<br />barrique barrels. The noble roasted aromas and the vital acidity are harmoniously combined with the powerful fruit body. The clayey soil is responsible for its typical terroir<br />characteristics, which lend the fruity finish a piquant spiciness (liquorice) and its individual earthy note.<br />FRAUENHÜGEL: the powerful one.<br /><br />Grape variety: Lagrein<br />Vinification: Temperature-controlled fermentation in red wine tanks and ageing in French barriques for 12 months. Structure and character from Nebbiolo, softness and<br />and elegance from Barbera.<br /><br />First vintage produced: 1981<br />Grape varieties: Nebbiolo 90% + Barbera 10%.<br /><br />Vinification: Nebbiolo and Barbera are vinified separately to obtain the maximum expression of both varieties. Moscato d'Asti DOCG 2022...

On the label the Latin phrase 'Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas' means 'the farmer with the plough directs the work'. We chose it when we acquired the vineyard and<br />became its owners. It is a vineyard on the hill of Mango, a village in the Langa. We bought it in 1990. The letter G highlighted on the label underlines the transmission from<br />father to son of the knowledge of the vineyard: Giuseppe, Giacomo and Giuseppe again.<br /><br />Denomination: Moscato d'Asti DOCG.<br />Grapes and Vineyard: Produced with 100% Moscato d'Asti grapes from our own vineyard in Mango.<br />Winery: Maceration with the skins for a few hours in a horizontal press followed by pressing. White vinification with prise de mousse in temperature-controlled autoclaves for<br />20 days at about 4°. At the end of fermentation, stabilisation with refrigeration at - 4°, microfiltration and refinement in the bottle for a few weeks.<br />Tasting: Brilliant straw yellow colour, fine foam and rich perlage. Extraordinarily fresh and very varied bouquet, with fresh fruit, orange blossom, rose and musk among the<br />many notes. Sweet but very graceful taste, aromatic characteristic of grapes, delicious and with long persistence. Accompanies: fruit desserts, fruit, dry pastries, panettone,<br />hazelnut cake, special cheeses such as Castelmagno. Very pleasant as an aperitif and as a thirst-quenching drink at any time of day.<br />Serving recommendations: Serve at 6 - 8°.<br />

It took 35 notarial acts and 7 years to bring together the many plots of land in Montebruna, a property of great oenological value. When we succeeded, for joy we gave it<br />voices and verses, involving artists, poets and musicians who sang about this Barbera and its land, 'a land that speaks'.<br /><br />Denomination: Barbera d'Asti DOCG.<br />Grape and Vineyard: Montebruna is a Barbera d'Asti DOCG made from 100% Barbera grapes grown in our own vineyard in Rocchetta Tanaro.<br />Winery: The fermentation takes place for a fortnight in steel tanks at controlled temperature; then for one year the wine matures in large oak barrels.<br />Tasting: Ruby red violet colour. It impresses with very clear scents of ripe cherries and small red fruits. The taste in the mouth is deep, full, harmonious, with a long finish<br />that maintains the persistence of the flavour and finishes with almonds. Excellent, well-balanced, fragrant and very drinkable. It accompanies pasta-based first courses, main<br />courses of white or red meat, cheeses and sausages.<br />Serving temperature: Serve at 15-17°.<br />

L'Uccellone was the nickname of a woman who lived on the vineyard hill. Her nose was reminiscent of a bird's beak, and she always wore black: this earned her a nickname<br />in the village. Hence the name Bricco dell'Uccellone.<br /><br />Appellation: Barbera d'Asti DOCG.<br />Grapes and Vineyard: Produced with 100% Barbera grapes from our own vineyards in Rocchetta Tanaro.<br />Winery: Maceration on the skins takes place at controlled temperature and lasts 20 days. The wine then goes into oak barrels where it refines for 12 months, then one more<br />year in bottle.<br />Tasting: Very intense ruby red colour with garnet reflections. Rich, complex bouquet, with considerable concentration and depth; hints of red fruit and small fruits are<br />particularly evident, with some minty spices, vanilla and liquorice in the background. Generous flavour, full-bodied and well-structured, a perfect blend of the characteristics of<br />the vine and the contribution of the wood, in a combination of great softness and class, with a very long aromatic persistence. Accompanies large meat dishes, roasts, also<br />with sauces, mature cheeses.<br />Serving temperature: Serve at 17-18°C.<br />
