Subsequent malolactic fermentation in large 70hl and medium 22hl wooden<br />barrels of French and Slavonian oak. This is followed by further ageing in wooden barrels.<br /><br />DEGUSTATION: the Lagrein Elena Walch invites with an intense and dense garnet red colour. The multi-layered bouquet captivates with discreet spicy aromas, with cocoa<br />as well as wild berries and heart cherries in the background. A distinctive<br />tannin structure, supple fullness, a playful rustic elegance and youthful freshness as well as a juicy, long finish convince on the palate.<br /><br />TERROIR: warmer sites on chalky soils with clay and sand on both sides of the ridge, facing southeast and southwest. The cooler temperature persisted into May and therefore<br />blooming officially started only the second half of June which is typically 2 weeks later<br />than usual. June and July were hotter and more humid than the average which caused big<br />challenges in the vineyards. Fortunately, at the end of summer we had exceptional weather<br />- dry and hot and also during the whole month of Seprember we had perfect conditions.<br />Harvest started 10 days later than usual on September 26th. Cool nights and hot days<br />continued and made for uniformed, healthy grapes with average alcohol levels and higher<br />than average acidic levels.<br />

Already on April 10, on the sunny sites<br />around the monastery, we saw the first shoots. Thanks to mild spring weather, there were<br />no problems with frost. During the summer the conditions were good as well, with normal<br />temperatures and average rainfall. There were no extreme weather event and so harvest<br />started about 10 days early on September 14th. Unfortunately, the autumn was a little bit<br />rainy and therefore the diurnal temperature shift was less extreme than usual. In order to<br />get healthy grapes, the harvest dates were brought forward and so harvest was already<br />completed by mid-October.<br />The wines of the 2020 vintage are delicate, fresh and fruity with moderate alcohol and an<br />appealing acidity. Similar to the 2019 vintage.<br />

DER BLAUWAL Riserva 2009 Trento DOC<br /><br />From Chardonnay grapes<br /><br />Der Blauwal is our classic method reserve. A single vineyard, a single vintage and a single grape variety. Time is a precious commodity: it takes at least 84 months on the<br />lees to transfer the complex history of the vintage, the identity of the vineyard and the characteristics of the variety into the wine. It is an extra brut with a dosage of about 3<br />g/l. The enveloping taste and structure are merited by the quality of the grapes from old vines and the ripeness of the fruit. Vintage: the weather conditions make the 2019 viticultural year a challenge for our winegrowers. A relatively mild winter and early spring were followed by a wet and cool<br />April and May. After flowering, which did not occur until June, the weather situation turned around and it became hot and dry. Late summer delayed the ripening of the<br />grapes with some rainfall and below-average temperatures. Harvesting of the healthy grapes began in early September and continued until the end of October.<br />Tasting notes: bright yellow, fruity aroma of ripe peach, mango and coconut milk, full mouthfeel with lots of ripe fruit on the palate, juicy finish.<br /><br />Recommendation: try it as an aperitif, with light starters, summer salads, asparagus dishes, grilled fish or with mild sliced and fresh cheeses!<br /><br />Vinification: Whole cluster pressing of ripe and above all perfectly healthy grapes, 18-hour maceration, natural must clarification, slow fermentation at a controlled<br />temperature of 18 °C (approx. 50% spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels), 5-month ageing on the fine lees, filtration and bottling in March.<br /><br />Vineyard:Steep south/south-western slope at 700 m above sea level with sandy-loamy porphyry weathered soil.<br /><br />Grape variety: Kerner<br />Age of the vines: 10 - 30 years<br />Drinking temperature: 10 - 12 °C<br />Yield: 65 hl/ha<br />Method of cultivation: wire frame + pergola<br />Alcohol: 14,0 %<br />Residual sugar: 4,0 g/l<br />Acidity: 6,4 g/l<br />Contains sulphites<br />

Pinot Grigio PUITEN<br /><br />A finesse-rich classic from selected vineyards. A wine with seductive fruit sweetness, spicy fragrance and excellent acidity.<br /><br />Description: Strong green-yellow, pleasant fruit aromas of quince, pear and honeydew melon.<br />honeydew melon. A very dense versatile Pinot Grigio on the palate with fresh acidity.<br /><br />Ageing potential: 3-5 years.<br /><br />Recommended food: Pair with appetizers of all kinds, seafood and fish, and lightly spiced white meat dishes.<br /><br />Serving temperature: 10-12° C.<br /><br />Grape variety: Pinot grigio/Ruländer.<br /><br />Vineyards: Vineyards on a gentle slope with moderately heavy gravelly-sandy soil.<br /><br />Yield: 50 hl/ha<br /><br />Vinification: Cool fermentation at 18° C in stainless steel for about 14 days. Part of the must ferments in large wooden barrels. PIPA<br />PIPA is the exotic wine in our range. PIPA is a fortified wine - vino liquoroso, inspired by port wine. This first South Tyrolean 'port' is vinified from Lagrein grapes and is a<br />long-lasting and complex dessert wine produced along the lines of a vintage Ruby. The name 'PIPA' comes from the typical oak barrels in which the port wine is stored in<br />Portugal. 'After a trip to the Douro Valley in Portugal, I wanted to try my hand at making a port wine myself: I wanted to capture and preserve the typical cherry notes of the<br />Lagrein during fermentation. After several experiments, I was able to refine and perfect the process.' FranzGojer<br /><br />Site: Auer: Stony alluvial soil of the Etsch river. The warm porphyry is ideal for the grape variety. Guyot cultivation with 5,000 vines per hectare.<br /><br />Vinification: Hand harvest and gentle processing. Cold maceration and fermentation in open oak vats with light toasting. Intensive extraction by continuous immersion of the<br />marc cap in the must. Addition of brandy to the fermenting must to kill the yeasts and stop fermentation. Ageing in PIPA oak barrels for 6 months. Bottling and ageing in<br />bottle.<br /><br />Sensory characteristics: Intense garnet red with violet nuances. Smells wonderfully and intensely of fully ripe cherries and wild berries, Full-bodied and fine in the mouth. The<br />strong tannin and the juicy acidity act as an ideal counterpart to the sweetness and thus form a complex taste picture. The long, fruity finish flatters the palate. Suitable for<br />chocolate desserts of all kinds, the more intense and noble the chocolate, the better the combination.<br />
