Appetizing, juicy ... notes of ground black pepper, red spices (Hungarian paprika) and cumin. Traces of oak (cherry) and dusty<br />tannins tending to chalky. Fruits evident, but the savoury attracts more attention (glazed meats, green olives, capers). Yet another manifestation of the aromas and structure<br />of Shiraz obtained from a cooler climate and aging in French oak...all under Penfolds' supervision.<br />

Porphyr<br />Riserva<br /><br />'Three selected single vineyard sites with vines that are almost a century old and thus provide very concentrated and extract-rich grape material form the basis for our Lagrein selection. One third new wooden barrels are used for ageing in the barriques. Assemblage three months before bottling.<br /><br />Technical data<br />Alcohol content: 14,0 % vol.<br />Residual sugar: 1,4 g/l<br />Total acidity: 5 g/l<br /><br /><br />Character<br /><br />Colour: rich, impenetrable ruby red with violet reflections<br />Nose: This Lagrein selection can be described as multi-faceted and extremely intense on the nose, with hints of liquorice, coffee beans, vanilla bean, cloves and black tea, making it both spicy and juicily fruity, with aromas reminiscent of sour cherry and blueberries.<br />Taste: Harmonious on the palate with very compact and concentrated, multi-layered flavours characterised not only by a juicy fruit but also a peppery spiciness as well as a slightly sweet bitter chocolate note rounded off by finely polished tannins.<br /><br /><br /><br />

For the maturation in the barrique barrels, one third new<br />wooden barrels are used.
