Subsequent malolactic fermentation in large 70hl and medium 22hl wooden<br />barrels of French and Slavonian oak. This is followed by further ageing in wooden barrels.<br /><br />DEGUSTATION: the Lagrein Elena Walch invites with an intense and dense garnet red colour. The multi-layered bouquet captivates with discreet spicy aromas, with cocoa<br />as well as wild berries and heart cherries in the background. A distinctive<br />tannin structure, supple fullness, a playful rustic elegance and youthful freshness as well as a juicy, long finish convince on the palate.<br /><br />TERROIR: warmer sites on chalky soils with clay and sand on both sides of the ridge, facing southeast and southwest. The frost night in May and the hailstorm in<br />August put the vegetation in the vineyard to a hard test. Nevertheless, thanks to the wonderful autumn weather with warm days and cold nights the harvest went very well.<br />2019 is a vintage that reflects our terroir. The wines present themselves very fruity and typical of their variety, with fresh and pleasant acidity. - summarizes our winemaker<br />Celestino Lucin. All in all, 2019 presents itself as an exceptional vintage with lower quantity but convincing levels of quality.<br />

PIPA<br />PIPA is the exotic wine in our range. PIPA is a fortified wine - vino liquoroso, inspired by port wine. This first South Tyrolean 'port' is vinified from Lagrein grapes and is a<br />long-lasting and complex dessert wine produced along the lines of a vintage Ruby. The name 'PIPA' comes from the typical oak barrels in which the port wine is stored in<br />Portugal. 'After a trip to the Douro Valley in Portugal, I wanted to try my hand at making a port wine myself: I wanted to capture and preserve the typical cherry notes of the<br />Lagrein during fermentation. After several experiments, I was able to refine and perfect the process.' FranzGojer<br /><br />Site: Auer: Stony alluvial soil of the Etsch river. The warm porphyry is ideal for the grape variety. Guyot cultivation with 5,000 vines per hectare.<br /><br />Vinification: Hand harvest and gentle processing. Cold maceration and fermentation in open oak vats with light toasting. Intensive extraction by continuous immersion of the<br />marc cap in the must. Addition of brandy to the fermenting must to kill the yeasts and stop fermentation. Ageing in PIPA oak barrels for 6 months. Bottling and ageing in<br />bottle.<br /><br />Sensory characteristics: Intense garnet red with violet nuances. Smells wonderfully and intensely of fully ripe cherries and wild berries, Full-bodied and fine in the mouth. The<br />strong tannin and the juicy acidity act as an ideal counterpart to the sweetness and thus form a complex taste picture. The long, fruity finish flatters the palate. Suitable for<br />chocolate desserts of all kinds, the more intense and noble the chocolate, the better the combination.<br />

The head of character.<br />The perfect symbiosis of tradition and modernity.<br /><br />IN THE VINEYARD<br />The grapes of our classic Lagrein ripen in the vineyards in the sun-drenched basin of Bolzano at an altitude of 260 m, deeply rooted in sandy alluvial soils with a southern<br />exposure.<br />IN THE CELLAR After temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel at 28°C for 8 days, the wine is then matured in large wooden barrels of 30 - 50 hl.<br /><br />Colour: strong purple red<br />Aroma: invitingly open and complex with notes of violets, chocolate, ripe plums and spices<br />Taste: elegant with a velvety structure, densely woven tannins and light bitter almond tones.<br />Alcohol: 13.50 % vol.<br />Acidity: 4.80 g/l<br />Residual sugar: 2.40 g/l<br /><br />TASTING NOTES<br />This Lagrein has a strong purple colour. The nose is invitingly open and complex with notes of violets, chocolate, ripe plums and spices. Elegant on the palate, it convinces<br />with a velvety structure, densely interwoven tannins and light bitter almond tones.
