Lagrein, genetically related to Syrah, is the oldest autochthonous grape variety in South Tyrol. In the hot, deep vineyards in the south of South Tyrol, the heat-loving Lagrein<br />finds its suitable habitat.<br />The FRAUENHÜGEL has a seductive fruitiness of wild berries, elderberries, black cherries and cocoa beans. The wine is enriched with balsamic tannins during ageing in<br />barrique barrels. The noble roasted aromas and the vital acidity are harmoniously combined with the powerful fruit body. The clayey soil is responsible for its typical terroir<br />characteristics, which lend the fruity finish a piquant spiciness (liquorice) and its individual earthy note.<br />FRAUENHÜGEL: the powerful one.<br /><br />Grape variety: Lagrein<br />Vinification: Temperature-controlled fermentation in red wine tanks and ageing in French barriques for 12 months. On the label the Latin phrase 'Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas' means 'the farmer with the plough directs the work'. We chose it when we acquired the vineyard and<br />became its owners. It is a vineyard on the hill of Mango, a village in the Langa. We bought it in 1990. The letter G highlighted on the label underlines the transmission from<br />father to son of the knowledge of the vineyard: Giuseppe, Giacomo and Giuseppe again.<br /><br />Denomination: Moscato d'Asti DOCG.<br />Grapes and Vineyard: Produced with 100% Moscato d'Asti grapes from our own vineyard in Mango.<br />Winery: Maceration with the skins for a few hours in a horizontal press followed by pressing. White vinification with prise de mousse in temperature-controlled autoclaves for<br />20 days at about 4°. At the end of fermentation, stabilisation with refrigeration at - 4°, microfiltration and refinement in the bottle for a few weeks.<br />Tasting: Brilliant straw yellow colour, fine foam and rich perlage. Extraordinarily fresh and very varied bouquet, with fresh fruit, orange blossom, rose and musk among the<br />many notes. Sweet but very graceful taste, aromatic characteristic of grapes, delicious and with long persistence. Accompanies: fruit desserts, fruit, dry pastries, panettone,<br />hazelnut cake, special cheeses such as Castelmagno. Very pleasant as an aperitif and as a thirst-quenching drink at any time of day.<br />Serving recommendations: Serve at 6 - 8°.<br />

STEINRAFFLER<br />VIGNA LAGREIN<br /><br />A wanderer between worlds. On the one hand dense and concentrated and almost rustic in a pleasant way, it nevertheless reveals a certain elegance. The colour is deep<br />dark and garnet red with an almost black core. The bouquet reveals a mixture of earthy-mineral and spicy notes. The initially delicate fruit develops increasingly in the glass<br />and is reminiscent of dark, ripe plums. On the palate, the spice components continue, with the finish gaining in complexity due to the mineral notes that emerge once again.<br /><br />This grape variety, unique to South Tyrol, finds very good growing conditions in the vineyards of our Steinraffler winery. Here, in 1990, we planted the short-stemmed Lagrein,<br />a variety that had almost fallen into oblivion in South Tyrol, grafted it onto weak-growing rootstocks and grew it on wire frames. The rebirth of this old, autochthonous red wine<br />variety represents for us a happy combination of tradition and innovation.<br /><br />In South Tyrol, only the 'Vigna' classification guarantees the origin of a site wine.<br /><br />Grape variety: Lagrein<br />Soil: Loam and sandy soils<br />Vinification: After delivery, the destemmed grapes enter the fermentation tank. After a short maceration, the mash is fermented for about 10 days.<br />Maturation: It matures for 15 months in small oak barrels, another 7 months after the assemblage in large oak barrels and at least 12 months in the bottle.<br />Food recommendation: Red meats, game, mild cheeses.<br />

(Milena Vaira)<br />DESCRIPTION: Moscato is a beautifully aromatic variety that is deeply rooted in the winemaking heritage of Piemonte. We pick our grapes at full ripening, when the berries<br />start to be gold in color. Our dream is to bring all the perfumes, the freshness and the texture intact to the bottle.<br />VARIETY: 100% Moscato bianco.<br />VINEYARD AND TERROIR: Steep, old estate vineyards.<br />HARVEST AND WINEMAKING: Moscato harvest starts usually around the end of August. Picking decisions are individual to each site. Aldo always gives few more days of<br />ripening to this variety, which is a challenging decision in a crucial period yet rewarded by the beautiful fruits. Cold settling followed by a slow fermentation at low<br />temperature. Fermentation is stopped by drop of temperature, and the wine is kept refrigerated until bottling.<br />TASTING NOTES: Beautiful soft color with green reflections. Aromas of fruit with yellow flesh: apricot, peach, exotic fruits. Then elderflower, pear and a hint of sage.<br />Delicate and persistent bubbles, refreshing and cleansing the palate. The balance between sweetness and freshness continues in a long and creamy finish,<br />surprisingly savory.<br />
