Altos Las Hormigas was founded in Mendoza in 1995 by oenologist Alberto Antonini and entrepreneur Antonio Morescalchi, later joined by Attilio<br />Pagli and Carlos Vazquez. The property extends in the Mendoza region and in particular in the two subzones of Luján de Cuyo and Maipú, where the<br />first Altos Las Hormigas vineyards were planted in 1996. At present, the agronomic management of the land aims to protect the natural heritage of<br />the region, whose particular beauty is also due to the fact that it lies at the foot of Aconcagua, an Andean mountain, to the east of which the largest<br />portion of the estate faces. The nature of the soils is clay-limestone with alluvial sedimentation, and in some areas has sand and pebbles. The climate<br />of the region is characterised by dry periods and a marked temperature alternation: very hot days and cold nights. The winery currently covers an area<br />of 206 hectares, 40 of which are planted to Malbec and 6 to Bonarda. Harvesting is done manually and takes place in February and March. Altos Las<br />Hormigas wines are the result of little intervention in the cellar, aimed at enhancing the incredible heritage of Malbec vinified in purity.<br /><br />Varietal: Malbec.<br /><br />Vineyards: The grapes come from vineyards located on limestone soils in the Uco Valley, alluvial deposits of the Tunuyán River in Paraje Altamira and<br />Gualtallary. These terraces are characterised by the presence of medium to large gravel covered with calcium carbonate paste.<br /><br />Vinification: Malbec Reserve 2017 is made from hand-picked Malbec grapes.<br />During fermentation, excessive extraction is avoided and only indigenous yeasts are used. The wine matures for 22 months in 3,500-litre, unroasted<br />French oak barrels and then ages 12 months in the bottle.<br /><br />Characteristics: Malbec Reserve 2017 is characterised by spicy notes such as white and pink pepper, violets, graphite, red fruits, berries and underbrush.<br />Complex, long, it is an evolving wine in the glass with fine-grained structured tannins that linger long on the palate.<br />

Grape variety: Pinot Blanc<br />Denomination of Origin: Alto Adige DOC<br />Altitude: 500-700 metres above sea level<br />Orientation: south-east<br />Area: Above Nals, in Sirmian, the exposed slopes lie between 500 and 700 metres above sea level with a south-east orientation. The soil is a permeable moraine deposit<br />consisting of limestone, gneiss, mica, slate and marble, formed millions of years ago by glaciers of the Vinschgau Valley and lies on porphyry, the primary rock of the<br />bedrock.<br />Climate: the alpine climate with mild summer and cool autumn months causes the longer vegetation period and the late harvest in mid-October.<br />Vinification: the grapes are harvested by hand. After a short maceration period, the clarified must ferments for about 3 weeks in 12 hl and 30 hl wooden barrels. The young<br />wine then matures for a further 8 months on the fine lees.<br />Colour: bright straw yellow, beautiful depth.<br />Aroma: pineapple, pink grapefruit, kiwi, fresh hay, a hint of thyme.<br />Taste: compact, full-bodied, spicy and with salty length.<br />Food recommendation: Spaghetti with sardines, fish soup, spelt dumplings with grey cheese.<br />Serving temperature: 10-12° C<br />Storage recommendation: cool at 10-13° C and min. 60% humidity.<br />

In this late harvest, the<br />aromaticity of Sauvignon vinified in stainless steel, the softness of Chardonnay and the finesse of Turbiana meet harmoniously with an exclusive result. The nose shows<br />notes of tropical fruit accompanied by a vegetality and minerality that enhance the finesse and elegance with a very communicative impact that induces salivation stimulating<br />the taste. On the palate it is rich with an exquisitely sweet attack followed by perfectly balanced acidity and flavour, and finally the fruity and mineral notes return. Pre-fermentation takes place at 10°. Continuous pumping over is carried out to extract soft tannins.<br />Malolactic fermentation then begins. After a soft pressing, fermentation is followed by maturation in wooden barrels, before proceeding<br />to refinement directly in the bottle.<br /><br />COLOUR: deep and dense cherry red.<br /><br />BOUQUET: On the nose, dark floral aromas of violets, fleshy notes of currants and oak spices waft from the glass.<br /><br />PAIRINGS: perfect for pairing with meat dishes. Try it with barbecued pork chops.<br /><br />TASTE: In the mouth the dark fruit flavours ring true with notes of plum, currant and blackberry resting on deeper notes of dried cherry and mocha. The tannins are robust<br />and help support the fruit flavors. The finish is long and persistent.<br /><br />AGING: Aged in French oak barrels (90% new) for 20 months.<br />

TYPOLOGY: Sauternes AOC ' Carmes De Rieussec '.<br /><br />PRODUCTION AREA: Sauternes<br /><br />VINE: 94% Sémillon, 3% Sauvignon Blanc, 3% Muscadelle<br /><br />SOIL TYPE: clayey-calcareous soil alternating with alluvial pebbles called Grave.<br /><br />VINIFICATION: after the harvest, the grapes arrived in the cellar were immediately pressed by parcel. The must from each parcel was then put into separate barriques after<br />skimming to carry out fermentation.<br /><br />COLOUR: pale gold.<br /><br />BOUQUET: The nose is a triumph of candid fruit and acacia flowers almost reminiscent of sweet fruits roasted in the sun.<br /><br />PAIRINGS: it is soon paired with dry pastries, but also with blue cheeses, to the traditional local pairing with 'pate du foie gras'. It also lends itself to being a great<br />meditation wine.<br /><br />TASTE: Generous and balanced on the palate. Pleasantly sweet finish with a long persistence.<br /><br />AGING: refined in barriques, 50% new, for a period varying between 16 and 26 months.<br />
