This full-bodied malt is fused with the citrus aromas of pineapple, apricot and lemon to create a long-lasting sweet finish. On the nose, the American oak barrels, used in the distillate's maturation, produce an inviting, spicy fragrance.

The Balvenie PortWood Aged 21 Years, a marriage of rare Balvenie is transferred to port casks, or pipes, which have held fine port wines. Here it is sampled regularly by The Balvenie Malt Master to ensure that just the right amount of character is imparted by the port casks, enhancing and developing the single malt whilst preserving its original characteristics.

Nose: A clean fresh note of citrus and floral notes with a rich malty aroma and a slight peppery overtone. Taste: Silky smooth mouth-feel at the start, a warm malt flavour developing with a slight mouth watering effect. Finish: The deep rich malt taste with suggestions of citrus and oak and a little bite from the grain gives a well rounded full bodied wishkey, and results in a finish that is long, sustained, and loyal to the taste.

Matured malt whisky and grain whisky are blended and then re-casked (a process known as "marriage") to create a rich harmony of distinctly different whiskies. "From the Barrel" is bottled directly from re-casked barrels of whisky and features almost the same alcohol percentage. At 51.4% alcohol content, this whisky possesses a distinctive personality characterized by solidity, depth of taste and a richly expanding aroma.

The 1991 is less formal than say the 1992. Enticing, open and refined it is lively and spicy on first meeting followed by a fruity voluptuousness and creamy butterscotch flavours. This is what we call a conversation dram post lunch or dinner or even, I’ve heard, mid-afternoon. The point is that it is neither zesty in nature nor so big that it tires. We’re told it is dangerously more-ish. This is your warning.

The third release of the cult Port Charlotte Islay single malt whisky has been bottled and named "PC7 - The Islay Way". From the same inaugural vintage stocks distilled at the Bruichladdich distillery in 2001, this year’s version was bottled in October 2008 at seven years of age.
